Cuisinart CVR 1000 Pros
Since we’ve already spent quite a bit of time talking about how wonderful the Cuisinart CVR 1000 is, we really don’t see the need to go into all over again here.
However, one thing that comes up time and again, is the sheer versatility of the CVR-1000. You are not, in any way, limited to just roasting a chicken in it. Here is a list of some of the things CVR-1000 owners have cooked to perfection in their countertop rotisserie:
Ribs, meatloaf, beef roast, pork roast, shrimp, scallops, rack of lamb, steak, shish-kabobs.
And that’s not all! So don’t be afraid to experiment.
Okay, we know what you really want to hear about is the cons, so let’s move on.
Cuisinart CVR 1000 Cons
First of all, let’s preface this by saying that through of years of trying out new appliances, we’ve learned that they work much better when you READ THE MANUAL and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! Really, that’s such a simple, basic thing, but so many of us like to think we know what we’re doing and just plow on uneducated. Then something doesn’t turn out the way it should and we blame the appliance or the manufacturer, when, in many cases but not all, the fault lies with us.
Some of the complaints below are not due to design flaws, so we’ll point out the reason why some have problems in certain areas.
• First up, and this, in my opinion, is a design flaw. Not a big one, just annoying. It doesn’t have a retractable cord, and I think every appliance should, if possible.
• It doesn’t have a programmable timer so you can set it and forget it. Meaning you can’t program the timer in the morning and then leave for work, and have the CVR-1000 start sometime during the day.
• It’s big! Give or take an inch, it’s nearly 17 inches square, so think about counter space and storage space before you buy it.
• For a large family or household, the CVR-1000 likely won’t be big enough. You are limited in the size of the cuts of meat you can use.
• Some have complained that while the instructions say you can roast up to an 8 lb chicken, you are better off sticking to a chicken of about 5 or 6 pounds. I can’t comment on this, because I have a small household and I would never roast an 8 lb chicken.
• The drip tray isn’t very deep, so overflow could be an issue. And if it’s too full, getting your meet out without an accident may be problematic. To solve this, you might want to periodically use a baster to draw up some of the excess fat and liquids while your meat is cooking.
• The cookbook/instructions don’t include a standard detailed cooking chart. However, the manual does include a selection of detailed recipes. If you find that your meat is dry, the next time, use the thermometer to check when the meat is done, and adjust your cooking time accordingly in the future.
• You must follow the manual’s trussing instructions. They are very specific to the CVR-1000 vertical rotisserie, and if you don’t follow them, chances are your birds may not brown or cook evenly. Forget what you know about trussing and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!
• Be careful when you are removing your cooked meat or poultry. The unit is hot, so use caution, just like you would when removing something from your oven.
That’s it! Over all, I say the CVR-1000 is a great countertop rotisserie. If you are thinking of buying it for yourself, as a kitchen gift for someone, or maybe as a gift for mom, don’t hesitate! You can buy it HERE at amazon.com.
